Swami Vivekananda paid glowing tribute to American women in his famous letter to Maharaja of Khetri in 1894: "Last year I came to this country in summer, a wandering preacher from a far distant country, without name, fame, wealth, or learning to recommend me --- friendless, helpless, almost in a state of destitution --- and American women befriended me, gave me shelter and food, took me to their homes and treated me as their own son, their own brother." (--CW, Vol. 6, p. 248) All these years, the Vedanta Movement has been supported mainly by the life-giving and life-sacrificing devotion of American women. The Genêts are one of those legendary women. I express my eternal gratitude to each one of the American devotees, past and present, male or female --- whose faith in and labor of love for Vedanta have sustained the movement. ---From the preface of "The Genêts: A Legacy of Dedication" The Genêts: A Legacy of Dedication is a collection of several articles on the Genêt family's dedication to the cause of Vedanta.
